The USource Spring Forum agenda will include a detailed look at developing HR Strategy, a review of the latest HR trends, the proposed new overtime rule, roundtable discussion among your peers on a variety of issues, and more!

Many HR professionals are getting tired of being criticized for not being strategic thinkers, but what does “being strategic” actually mean? There tends to be some confusion about this, not only among HR practitioners, but among business leaders in general. From a practical standpoint, it means knowing what the bank’s plan is for the next several years and ensuring that HR practices/policies are aligned and designed to help the bank achieve its objectives.  Being strategic does require HR professionals to have an action orientation, but it’s really more than that. HR professionals must be more than just competent in the world of HR, they must also “have a business sense” and “be the business person first.” It’s important for HR leaders to serve as a sounding board to management peers and senior leaders by providing insight on how to meet strategic objectives.

Strategic HR professionals think beyond the basic HR responsibilities of recordkeeping, compliance, documentation, and handbooks among others. While the basics must get done accurately in a timely and cost effective manner, there is much more to their role. Strategic HR serves as a business partner to senior management, ensuring that HR initiatives are undertaken in alignment with the bank’s business strategy, priorities, direction and focus. We’ll discuss what this all means, the barriers to becoming strategic in focus, and how to overcome them.

We will review the latest trends and updates in the HR world and draw key insights. For example, the proposed new overtime rule’s impact will be considered. There will also be time designated for roundtable discussion, focusing on whatever topics the participants would like to discuss.  USource members do like to know how their peers do things and are quite willing to share, so please come prepared to engage with them!

Forum Moderator
Bob Greening, VP of USource, will be the forum moderator. With over 30 years of HR experience including 18 years in the banking industry, Bob has a broad range of experience helping to shape his view of HR’s role in organizations.  He is SPHR certified along with degrees from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University.
