HR Question of the Week


We have a Branch Manager who has been with us two years .We have had numerous conversations with him about his abrupt communication style which does not set well with customers and employees; and his overall performance does not meet expectations.  We have decided to place him on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). Do you have any suggestions as to the format and what we should include as we write this PIP?

Yes, we can assist you. It is important to indicate the performance/behavior issues as specifically and detailed as possible. Explain what happens as a result of the manager's communication style with customers and employees? Indicate the goals for the employee, what must be accomplished and when. Schedule weekly follow-up dates to meet with the employee to discuss the status of the goals. At the end of the PIP include this statement,
